Ontologies for Data & Models for Liver Toxicology

EPA Grant Number: R835001
Title: Ontologies for Data & Models for Liver Toxicology
Investigators: Glazier, James A
Institution: Indiana University - Bloomington
EPA Project Officer: Chung, Serena
Project Period: June 1, 2011 through May 30, 2015
Project Amount: $749,705
RFA: Computational Toxicology: Biologically-Based Multi-Scale Modeling (2010) RFA Text |  Recipients Lists
Research Category: Chemical Safety for Sustainability

Description:

The PI proposes developing a suite of tools and standards to facilitate the exchange and specification of liver models and toxicological information, thereby helping to ensure that data for such work are decentralized and distributed. Towards this end, the PI will: develop an ontology for information associated with liver models and biological data related to these models; and develop the management protocols, the repository structure, and the web-based interface in order to implement the data sharing capabilities that the ontology makes possible. This research will provide the methods and data necessary to facilitate model development to better understand how toxic chemicals manifest their effects on the liver. It does so by providing a common platform through which scientific data on hypotoxicity can be integrated across multiple studies.
