Evaluation of Seasonal Wet and Dry Deposition in Washington DC

EPA Grant Number: F07P10227
Title: Evaluation of Seasonal Wet and Dry Deposition in Washington DC
Investigators: Williams, Cynthia
Institution: Howard University
EPA Project Officer: Lee, Sonja
Project Period: July 24, 2007 through April 24, 2009
Project Amount: $41,500
RFA: GRO Fellowships for Undergraduate Environmental Study (2007) RFA Text |  Recipients Lists
Research Category: Academic Fellowships

Objective:

This project is quantifying the sources and sinks of toxic substances in the Washington DC atmosphere. It specifically investigates the heavy metal, PAH and PCB levels in wet and dry deposition at two collection sites in the Washington DC watershed.

Approach:

In this project I will be responsible for collection of the wet samples using the Yankee Environmental Systems TPS-3100 system and dry deposition using a Thermo Andersen RAAS PM2.5 high volume sampler. After sample collection I will determine the heavy metal concentrations in these samples using Atomic Absorption spectroscopy. I will also assist in the PAH analysis.
