A Feasibility Study of Wind Resources for Meeting the Energy Needs of Georgia

EPA Grant Number: F07P40235
Title: A Feasibility Study of Wind Resources for Meeting the Energy Needs of Georgia
Investigators: Mitchell, Elan V
Institution: Spelman College
EPA Project Officer: Lee, Sonja
Project Period: July 17, 2007 through April 17, 2009
Project Amount: $41,500
RFA: GRO Fellowships for Undergraduate Environmental Study (2007) RFA Text |  Recipients Lists
Research Category: Academic Fellowships

Objective:

The research project will entail investigating wind turbine technology and determining if this is a viable way of meeting Georgia’s energy needs. Promising regions will be identified. Research will also investigate 2-blade rotors that weigh less, are less noisy, and less costly than 3-bladed rotors. Two programs, Yawdyn and Aerodyn will be used to predict power generation from wind turbines and to model air turbulence and predict effectiveness.

Supplemental Keywords:

RFA, Scientific Discipline, TREATMENT/CONTROL, Sustainable Industry/Business, POLLUTION PREVENTION, Sustainable Environment, Energy, Technology, Technology for Sustainable Environment, Environmental Engineering, environmental technology, clean technologies, turbine technology, environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, energy technology, alternative energy source, wind energy
