Pathophysiologic Mechanisms of Mortality Associated with Exposure to Concentrated Particulate Urban Air Toxics

EPA Grant Number: R825242
Title: Pathophysiologic Mechanisms of Mortality Associated with Exposure to Concentrated Particulate Urban Air Toxics
Investigators:
Institution: Harvard University
EPA Project Officer: Chung, Serena
Project Period: October 1, 1996 through September 30, 1999
Project Amount: $520,997
RFA: Air Quality (1996) RFA Text |  Recipients Lists
Research Category: Air Quality and Air Toxics , Air

Description:

The purpose of this project is to define biologically plausible mechanisms by which death can result from the inhalation of ambient air particles. The focus of the project is on the heart and lungs and attempts to elucidate mechanisms by which inhaled particles can result in sudden cardiac death. Information gained will be important in supporting the scientific basis for environmental control of urban air toxics.
