Description:

This technology diffusion project is directed to small and medium-sized businesses and industrial enterprises, which have been found to need extensive information resources, training, and technical assistance if they are to successfully implement the many pollution prevention technologies already at work in larger industries. The project provides pollution prevention technical literature, training, and on-site technical assistance to businesses in Maryland's key waste operating sectors. Under this ETI grant, the Maryland Center for Environmental Training (MCET) offers non-regulatory and confidential pollution prevention technical assistance. MCET also offers pollution prevention training and technical resources for Maryland's businesses and environmental professionals. MCET is working in partnership with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) to automate MDE's inspection reporting process, allowing inspectors to identify pollution prevention opportunities and to provide referrals to MCET for pollution prevention assistance. The partnerships which are being built among the regulatory agency, businesses, assistance providers, and others are expected to improve the application of pollution prevention activities and technologies.
