Objective:
The objective of this research project is to analyze the environmental problems and policy of Kazakhstan.
Approach:
Using raw data collected from regional and federal environmental agencies, augmented by independent data collected from nongovernment organizations (NGOs), I have an understanding of the true extent of environmental damage and risks that are posed to local and international citizens. This analysis will be conducted with some comparison to other countries in the former Soviet republics and some developed countries to give the reader a broader perspective. Finally, conclusions and recommendations will be made about the direction the Kazakhstani government needs to take regarding environmental policy, in light of the country's economic, social, and political problems. Recommendations also will be made for other countries, such as the United States and Russia, to assist in the development of a sound global environmental policy. This research project will be academically based, but it is intended to be used by those studying and working on the aforementioned problems.
