Description:
The purpose of this project is to develop alternative extraction and derivatization procedures for the determination of polar organic pollutants in sediments, soils, and water.Experiments in methods development focus on coupling derivatization reactions with supercritical carbon dioxide and subcritical fluid (hot water) extraction techniques. In particular, solid phase extraction media are being evaluated for the purpose of trapping extracted analytes and for catalyzing derivatization reactions.
The results of this methods development project will yield analytical methodologies that reduce the time and cost associated with polar pollutant analysis and reduce the amount of organic solvent waste generated.
