Description:
Hazardous air pollutants (HAP) in the form of different toxic compounds are generally a constituent part of combustion flue gases and various waste streams. The EPA list of HAP shows that chlorine plays an important role in the formation of various toxic compounds. Chlorinated HAP include toxic metals which are often in the form of volatile chlorides, chlorinated dioxins and furans, different chlorobenzenes and chlorophenols, chloroethylenes, chlorine, hydrogen chloride, etc. This proposal suggests a novel concept for multiple HAP removal by the use of an inexpensive chemical to capture all chlorine and to remove it in a stable, non-volatile, non-toxic and regenerable form. Addition of this chemical under specific conditions removes multiple air pollutants, such as volatile metal chlorides, all organic and inorganic chlorides, and nitrous oxide. The chemical also promotes SO2 removal and reduces the amount of sub-micron particles.Supplemental Keywords:
