Description:
Many contaminants of concern at hazardous waste sites are difficult to treat because of their chemical and physical characteristics. Constituents which have low vapor pressure, low water solubility, and low potential for biodegradability are not candidates for many technologies. Metals are a prime example as are polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). The proposed technology is a cold mix asphalt emulsion process which is based upon a proprietary process successfully being used for the remediation of sites containing petroleum products. Not only will this process target mixed wastes of metals and organic compounds in soils, but this process also has the added benefit of being able to incorporate contaminated building rubble as part of the asphalt aggregate system. The materials thus produced can be used in various applications including road paving, parking lots, capping landfills, etc.Supplemental Keywords:
