Description:

Powsus, Inc., has identified and tested certain plastic tubing that ruptures when touched by flame or reaches a predetermined heat level. The plastic holds up to 1,100 psi of supplemented hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) gas and has a projected shelf life of more than 5 years. The Phase I objective is to field test these tubes containing Powsus' SNAP approved, gelled gas/powder extinguishant that has equaled or exceeded Halon 1301 and 1211 under independent tests and has demonstrated that it controls generation of hydrogen fluoride. These tests would be conducted under the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Institute of Standards and Technology auspices in airline cargo containers and school bus engines, respectively. This Phase I project will demonstrate in trial production runs that the resulting products are equivalent or less expensive than the products in use today. The products have direct commercial application for fire control in the engines of all moving vehicles, including automobiles, trucks, trains, buses, airplanes, and ships. The product has further application to industrial and residential furnaces, electronic devices, kitchen protection, and even Christmas trees. There is no known competing device to this patented process at this time.
