Description:
Real-time measurement and monitoring technologies are needed for objective and prompt reduction of pollutants and hazardous vapor emissions. These technologies can help prevent pollution, guide cost savings, and prevent expensive process shutdowns due to flange, valve, seal, or other process failures. Furthermore, real-time analytical technologies can assist in identifying the effectiveness of environmental remediation technologies. Nanomaterials Research Corporation (NRC) seeks to address this need and develop and commercialize real-time microanalyzers for pollutants in general and ammonia in particular. During Phase I, NRC will demonstrate the proof-of-concept; Phase II will understand, optimize, and prepare a prototype microanalyzer packaged product.Major improvements in hazard management, process control, compliance monitoring, and objective environmental decisionmaking would be possible if real-time, accurate, rugged, and affordable microanalyzers, such as the one proposed, became widely available. The proposed technology also would enable objective preventative maintenance and optimal operation of target processes (potential value exceeds $100 million per year), while simultaneously reducing operating costs and raw material costs for the industry.
