Description:
The monitoring of pesticide residues currently is accomplished in fixed laboratory facilities. The methods, while comprehensive, usually involve extensive sample preparation and concentration prior to analysis. There is a growing need to move pesticide residue analysis into the field. Biosensors based on immunoassay procedures offer an excellent format to accomplish this goal. Simplified assays with as few steps and liquid reagents as possible would help support a move to in-field analysis. The proposed effort will lead to the development of this type of biosensor. The objectives to be achieved include selection of an enzyme and method of conjugation and evaluation of various configurations of a means to electronically transduce the signal. Availability of the proposed, simplified biosensor should meet the need for rugged, easy-to-use, low-cost diagnostic tools for in-field analysis. The proposed technology should support the trend of "faster, cheaper, safer, better" with regard toscreening for priority pollutants in a variety of matrices.Supplemental Keywords:
