Objective:
The proposed project is to develop a low cost and portable well drill and bailer for towns and villages in various parts of the world that do not have easy access to clean drinking water.
Approach:
The project will be conducted through the curricular framework of Junior/Senior Engineering clinics, where undergraduate students of multiple disciplines work together on a research project. The undergraduate team working on the project includes both mechanical engineers and civil and environmental engineers. The project also falls under the category of projects that are encompassed by Engineering Innovators without Borders (EIWB), an offshoot of EWB, which was started at Rowan University and seeks to establish entrepreneurial opportunities for the developing world through redesign of products or processes that can also improve the quality of life.
Expected Results:
Produce a well drill and bailer, which considers ease of use, portability, functionality, affordability, and reproducibility. The prototype of the well drill and bailer will be versatile so that it can be used for various different site conditions.
