The overall objective of this SBIR project is to demonstrate a novel all-solid-state electrochemical technology to remove nitrogen oxide pollutants from heavy-duty diesel engine exhaust in a cost effective, reliable, and practical manner. Additionally, the resulting technology will be applicable to NOx control from other non-diesel, stationary and mobile sources. The proposed aftertreatment device can simultaneously remove CO and hydrocarbons from the exhaust and requires no material consumables for operation. In Phase I, a prototype device will be fabricated and tested with simulated diesel exhaust. This device could be used to control NOx emissions from diesel-powered trucks, buses, cars, marine engines, diesel locomotives, tractors and agricultural equipment, mining equipment, diesel gensets, and stationary pumps.
