Objective:This study will evaluate three "windows of sensitivity" in children's neurodevelopment, including in utero midbrain development and postnatal development of the cerebellum and hippocampus. Susceptibility to neurodevelopmental impacts will be defined by time of development in which exposures occur, specific target neuro tissues impacted and kinetics of molecular and cellular processes in that tissue at the time of exposure. The effects of three classes of pesticides will be assessed in vitro for specific cell systems and followed in vivo for both molecular, cellular and neurodevelopmental effects. Information from these studies will go directly into biologically based dose-response models that will be developed by the Risk Characterization Facility Core. These models will be developed for use in quantitative risk assessments to replace default approaches with scientifically based risk evaluation methods.
