Description:

Develop a wireless power transfer system that would reduce the weight of commercial airliners by reducing the amount—and therefore the weight—of wiring needed in the cabin for entertainment and productivity, eventually reducing aircraft carbon emissions.

Objective:

The objective of this proposal is to help reduce the amount of CO2 emission by reducing the weight of a commercial airplane by eliminating most of the power cables presently needed to supply electricity throughout the aircraft cabin and replacing them with a wireless power transfer network.

Approach:

The approach is to first simulate a design for the receiver which consists of an antenna, rectifier circuit, and DC-DC converter that produces the DC power that is supplied to the load. Then a prototype of the board will be built and measured using a network analyzer and other instruments to measure the power transfer efficiency of the device.

Expected Results:

The expected results include simulation results of the output power, and power transfer efficiency from the antenna to the load. The layout of the board and prototype of the board are expected to be completed. Finally, measurement results of the output power, and the power transfer efficiency are to be expected.
