Objective:
Design an integrated, efficient biological system that can be used to convert sugar beets into biofuel and bioenergy.
Approach:
- Design industrial scale system that will produce ethanol and biogas from ground sugar beet.
- Design, build, and test lab scale system based on industrial design.
- Determine optimal conditions for ethanol and biogas production.
- Develop engineering design and operating manual for the integrated ethanol and biogas production system.
Expected Results:
A design spreadsheet model for sizing and analyzing the integrated ethanol and biogas production system, a prototype of the ethanol and biogas production system in the laboratory that has been tested and documented with performance data, and a design and operating manual for the system.
