Objective:
(1) to integrate Seminole Tribal building technology with emerging innovative renewable technologies to create a productive sustainable "outdoor" learning classroom; and (2) to use the energy of the design process to create an innovative learning opportunity for all project participants.
Approach:
(1) to identify important sustainable technologies embodied in the Seminole "chickee" design; (2) to identify potential innovative renewable technologies compatible with the "chickee" design; (3) to bring together stakeholders including college and K-6 students and faculty, Seminole building experts, and sustainable energy experts in "charrettes" to evaluate technological opportunities, to design the classroom, to build a scale model, and to develop a monitoring plan to evaluate its effectiveness.
Expected Results:
(1) detailed design plans for a sustainable outdoor learning classroom, (2) a scale model of the planned sustainable outdoor learning classroom, (3) a description of the process of design and the contributions of the various stakeholders, and (4) a monitoring plan to evaluate the effectiveness of the sustainable outdoor classroom.
