Description:

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between interstitial lung disease, moisture in homes and workplaces, and mycotoxins. All new-onset interstitial pulmonary fibrosis cases in Connecticut will be enrolled in a population-based case-control study. Control subjects will be identified through a population-based database. Cases and controls will complete a self-administered questionnaire that has been used in two similar smaller studies documenting associations with molds and moisture. Approximately 70 subjects with mold exposure and 70 controls will undergo detailed exposure assessment in the workplace and at home. Exposure assessment will include assessment of moisture sources, physical characteristics ( air velocity), surface temperature, sampling for bioaerosols (quiescent and semi-aggressive), and analysis for mycotoxins.
