Edge Effects on Lizards (Norops) and Frogs (Eleutherodactylus) in Tropical Forest Fragments
EPA Grant Number: U915581Title: Edge Effects on Lizards (Norops) and Frogs (Eleutherodactylus) in Tropical Forest Fragments
Investigators: Schlaepfer, Martin A.
Institution: Cornell University
EPA Project Officer: Hahn, Intaek
Project Period: August 1, 1999 through August 1, 2002
Project Amount: $102,000
RFA: STAR Graduate Fellowships (1999) RFA Text | Recipients Lists
Research Category: Academic Fellowships , Ecological Indicators/Assessment/Restoration , Fellowship - Ecology
Objective:
The objective of this research project is to test whether rates of tail loss (autotomy) differ between different populations of the common anole, Norops polylepis, within the area of Las Cruces, Costa Rica.
Approach:
This research project will sample 864 individuals of the common anole, N. polylepis, from three distinct populations near Las Cruces, Costa Rica, and occurrence of autotomy will be recorded. The investigator will test whether the rate of tail autotomy differed among sex, age-class, and between populations.
Expected Results:
The different rates of tail autotomy between populations or sexes will probably reflect different ecological situations.
