Description:
The purpose of this project is to develop novel methodologies for the analysis and detection of chiral environmental contaminants. Conventional analytical techniques do not discriminate between enantiomers. By using newly developed enantioselective methods, the environmental persistence, degradation and pathways of many chiral compounds can be discerned for the first time. The mechanism and use of these new techniques are being investigated. The main analytical methodologies that are used and modified are: gas chromatography (GC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), capillary electrophoresis (CE) and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). New chiral selectors are being developed and tested for all of these techniques.Supplemental Keywords:
