Description:

The Enhanced Iron Co-Precipitation process has been successfully demonstrated to effectively remove arsenic from wastewater, by HYDRO-Solutions and Purification, LLC., of Fairbanks, Alaska. This method, which varies significantly from standard iron co-precipitation of arsenic processes, was patented in 1994. The chemical dynamics of other heavy metals, especially selenium, closely resemble those of arsenic. Initial laboratory testing has confirmed that removal of selenium by Enhanced Iron Co- Precipitation is effective, providing the pH and ORP of the process is closely regulated. This project will further define the effective operational parameters, through further laboratory testing, when the process is subjected to conditions expected in the field. A 10 gallon/minute bench-scale prototype will then be constructed and demonstrated at a selected selenium contamination site. The effectiveness of the Enhanced Iron Co- Precipitation process will be measured for both the removal of selenium and the economic factors of capital and operational costs.
