The objective of this research project is to test whether rates of tail loss (autotomy) differ between different populations of the common anole, Norops polylepis, within the area of Las Cruces, Costa Rica.


This research project will sample 864 individuals of the common anole, N. polylepis, from three distinct populations near Las Cruces, Costa Rica, and occurrence of autotomy will be recorded. The investigator will test whether the rate of tail autotomy differed among sex, age-class, and between populations.

Expected Results:

The different rates of tail autotomy between populations or sexes will probably reflect different ecological situations.
