Objective:

The Louisiana Environmental Leadership Pollution Prevention Program (LaELP), a program sponsored by the Department of Environmental Quality, the USEPA, and several industrial associations, was established within the UWRMC in 1995 to increase the adoption of pollution prevention strategies in Louisiana industry. The Program encourages and gives recognition to companies that volunteer to reduce their wastes and emissions beyond that required by current environmental regulations. The Executive Director for the LaELP is an USEPA employee provided to the UWMRC through a two-year Intergovernmental Personnel Act assignment. There are currently 48 facilities participating in the LaELP.

During the coming year, the LaELP will continue to recruit new member facilities and sponsor quarterly meetings of the members at sites throughout the state. A Louisiana Governor's Pollution Prevention Awards Program, to be sponsored by the LaDEQ and others, is currently under development. The LaELP is charged with the responsibility of carrying out the program once it is in place.

ELP Activities

Reduction Plans Workshop, "Environmental Leadership P2 Program," at Baton Rouge, August 23, 1995.
