Abstract

The goal of this project is to develop a framework for evaluating the potential effects of global stressors on the physical, chemical, and biological functions of aquatic ecosystems and associated ecosystem services, including water supply, water quality, and aquatic biota. The project report will include a discussion of the structures and functions of aquatic ecosystems, the potential effects of global changes and other human stressors on aquatic ecosystem functioning, definitions of the relationships among aquatic ecosystem functions and services, identification and categorization of potential indicators of service levels, and a proposed assessment framework to guide researchers in the use of indicators to analyze potential effects of global stressors on aquatic ecosystem services.
