WORKSHOP TO EVALUATE UNCERTAINTIES IN THE ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACTS OF GLOBAL CHANGE ON AIR QUALITY
A workshop will be conducted to evaluate approaches for characterizing, quantifying and communicating uncertainty when assessing global change effects on US air quality. The discussion focused on the US EPA ORD Global Research Program Air Quality assessment -- a complex, model-based assessment. Topics discussed included theoretical approaches for determining robust conclusions from integrated assessments, appropriate strategies for streamlining complex modeling systems for use in policy applications, and techniques for effectively communicating uncertainty to air quality decision-makers. An article discussing the theoretical and practical issues addressed during the workshop is in preparation for submission to a peer-reviewded journal.
