Aging and Toxic Response: Issues Relevant To Risk Assessment (Final)

EPA has released a final report entitled, Aging and Toxic Response: Issues Relevant to Risk Assessment. This document contributes to the Agency's efforts to better understand the physiology of aging in order to protect the health of older persons, and identifies several data gaps and research needs that may inform the Office of Research and Development's Research Initiative on Aging in conducting research to better characterize risk to the elderly population from exposure to environmental agents.

This report is intended to orient EPA scientists, risk assessors, and the public-at-large to physiological and biochemical factors in the elderly that may influence their responses to exposures from environmental chemicals. Although it is not a comprehensive review of literature, the document identifies several data gaps and research needs that may inform the Office of Research and Development's Research Initiative on Aging in conducting research to better characterize risk to the elderly population from exposure to environmental agents.
