Provisional Peer-Reviewed Toxicity Values for Picric Acid and Ammonium Picrate
Notice EPA announced the release of a Provisional Peer-Reviewed Toxicity Value assessment for Picric Acid (2,4,6-Trinitrophenol) (CASRN 88-89-1) and Ammonium Picrate (CASRN 131-74-8)
Provisional Peer-Reviewed Toxicity Value (PPRTV) assessments like Picric Acid (2,4,6-Trinitrophenol) (CASRN 88-89-1) and Ammonium Picrate (CASRN 131-74-8) support the EPA's mission to protect human health and the environment by identifying and characterizing the health hazards of chemicals of concern to the Superfund Program, and provide an important source of toxicity information and toxicity values. PPRTVs (provisional oral reference doses [p-RfDs], inhalation reference concentrations [p-RfCs], cancer risk values, and screening values) are derived after a review of the relevant scientific literature and use Agency methodologies, practices, and guidance for developing toxicity values.
The purpose of this document is to provide support for the hazard and dose response assessment pertaining to chronic and subchronic exposures to substances of concern, to present the major conclusions reached in the hazard identification and derivation of the PPRTVs, and to characterize the overall confidence in these conclusions and toxicity values.

|Sep 2020||EPA finalized and delivered the assessment to the Superfund Program. Subchronic p-RfD and screening chronic p-RfD were derived for ammonium picrate and picrid acid. This is the first entry of ammonium picrate into the PPRTV collection.|
|Oct 2020||EPA published the final report and values on the PPRTV website.|
