Improving the Resilience of Best Management Practices In A Changing Environment: Urban Stormwater Modeling Studies (Final Report)

Notice

In May 2018, EPA announced the availability of the final report, Improving the Resilience of Best Management Practices in a Changing Environment: Urban Stormwater Modeling Studies.

Abstract

The purpose of this report is to respond to EPA's identified need for an improved understanding of the potential impacts of changes in long term weather conditions on the occurrence and management of urban stormwater runoff. EPA conducted continuous simulation modeling of the hydrology, hydraulics, and water quality discharged from a series of conceptual development sites using a variety of conventional and green infrastructure practices consistent with local stormwater and site design regulations.

The stormwater management scenarios covered five types of developed land use in five geographic locations representing different hydroclimatic regimes throughout the United States. This report presents the results of these modeling studies, which are applicable to both new development, redevelopment, and stormwater retrofits.

The intended audiences for this report are local planners and managers engaged in the development and implementation of urban stormwater management plans, watershed implementation plans, total maximum daily loads (TMDLs), or other water quality management plans, as well as scientists working on climate change adaptation at the local level.

Impact/Purpose

Using continuous simulation modeling of the hydrology, hydraulics, and water quality discharged from a series of conceptual development sites with a variety of gray and green infrastructure (GI) practices.
