Sample letter of credit for use as a financial assurance mechanism in a CERCLA unilateral administrative order. In general, through letters of credit, financial institutions qualified to issue such letters of credit guarantee to EPA that they will pay for (up to a specified amount, for a specified period of time) potentially responsible parties’ (PRPs) cleanup obligations under orders if such PRPs are unable to do so.
