Chow, J. C., R. Scheffe, AND P A. Solomon. PREFACE: SPECIAL SECTION OF THE JOURNAL OF AIR & WASTE MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION FOR PARTICULATE MATTER: ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES, EXPOSURE AND THE FOURTH COLLOQUIUM ON PM AND HUMAN HEALTH. JOURNAL OF AIR AND WASTE MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION. Air & Waste Management Association, Pittsburgh, PA, 54(9):1025, (2004).

Impact/Purpose:

Develop and evaluate methods for the sampling and analysis of PM in ambient air, with emphasis on FRM/FEM for PMc, measurement of carbonaceous aerosols, measurement of biogenic aerosols, comparisons measurements from the STN and IMPROVE monitoring networks, and continuous methods for PM mass and its chemical components.

Description:

This dedicated issue of the Journal of the Air & Waste Management Association contains 17 peer-reviewed scientific papers that were presented at the specialty conference, “Particulate Matter: Atmospheric Sciences, Exposure and the Fourth Colloquium on PM and Human Health,” that was held in April 2003 in Pittsburgh, PA. Other peerreviewed papers appear in companion issues of the Journal of Geophysical Research –Atmospheres; Aerosol Science and Technology; Atmospheric Environment; and Inhalation Toxicology, all being published in the last half of 2004. More than 450 papers were presented in platform and poster sessions at the meeting, the overall goal of which was to bring together health and exposure scientists with atmospheric scientists, air quality managers, and policy makers to allow for enhanced communications and exchange of information among these groups. It is estimated that nearly 100 peerreviewed papers will be published.
