Impact/Purpose:

Information.

Description:

KCH Services, Inc. manufacturers a commercial-ready energy conserving automatic covered tank system for use in the metal finishing industry. The ACTSEC technology is a system designed to provide an efficient removal of air contaminants from the workplace at a reasonable cost and at a level that minimizes the overall exhaust volume and power consumption. With the addition of automatic tank covers to a tank line, the ACTSEC system reduces the overall ventilation required, per the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienist (ACGIH) guidelines for pollutant exposure in the workplace. The reduced ventilation correlates to a reduction in the size of the scrubber, scrubber pump motor, and induced draft fan, which in turn lower annual energy costs, and ultimately reduce fossil fuel power plant pollutant emissions.

The ACTSEC system was tested on a metal wash and acid etch line at an aerospace manufacturing facility. The test was conducted to verify the energy savings from decreased power requirements for the scrubber pump motor, induced draft fan, lid actuator motors, and the immersion heaters. A summary of all measured power consumption data is provided in the verification report and statement.

The test demonstrated that the KCH ACTSEC technology, when placed on a tank system with ventilation and heating requirements, resulted in a reduced need for ventilation and smaller load demand for power. Due to the smaller scrubber, scrubber pump motor, and induced draft fan, a reduction in capital cost was also experienced. The report and statement illustrates that energy, and cost reductions associated with the KCH ACTSEC technology can be of consider able magnitude to metal finishers considering system installation.
