Clark*, R M. AND R. A. Deininger. MINIMIZING THE VULNERABILITY OF WATER SUPPLIES TO NATURAL AND TERRORIST THREATS. Presented at 2001 AWWA information Management and Technology Conference and Exposition, Atlanta, GA, April 08 - 11, 2001.

Impact/Purpose:

To inform the public.

Description:

There is increasing concern that drinking water utilities may be vulnerable to attacks by terrorists. In the US the President's Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection has concluded the US drinking water utilities are vulnerable to physical, cyber and biological terrorism. As a result of devastating earthquakes, water utilities in the US and Japan developed systems that might be used in response to terrorism. Water utilities might use this experience to develop institutional, physical and operational strategies to protect against the threat of terrorist attack.
