Description:
Ongoing efforts between the Office of Research and Development and the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response have included technical guidance support, field demonstration activities, data analysis, and technology transfer activities in evaluating the impacts of vapor intrusion into indoor air from contaminated groundwater and soil sources. Specifically, three seminars were conducted to present information and guidance to evaluate, assess, and characterize pathways for chemical vapor migration into structures. In addition, abatement, mitigation and cleanup methods for reducing human health risks at impacted residences, facilities, and other contaminated sites were evaluates. This paper offers an overview of the current state-of-the-science related to these technical support programs.
