Stinson*, M K. AND J. E. Schenk. VERIFICATION TESTING OF HIGH-RATE MECHANICAL INDUCTION MIXERS FOR CHEMICAL DISINFECTANTS, Oregon. Presented at 9th Triennial International Conference on Urban Storm Drainage, Portland, OR, September 08 - 13, 2002.

Impact/Purpose:

To inform the public.

Description:

This paper describes the results of verification testing of mechanical induction mixers for dispersion of chemical disinfectants in wet-weather flow (WWF) conducted under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) WWF Pilot Program. The WWF Pilot verifies the performance of commercial-ready technologies for controlling and abating the impacts of urban wet-weather sources of pollution. Two vendors, US Filter/Stranco Products and The Mastrrr Company, participated in the WWF Pilot's verification of their induction mixers. US Filter provided mixers from their Water Champ Chemical Induction System series and The Mastrrr Company provided their Gas Mastrrr Series 32 Chemical Induction Mixer. Each company agreed to have the 5-hp, 10-hp, and 20 -hp models from their respective series tested. A single Test Plan was developed for each company to cover the testing of the three differently sized mixers. A separate Verification Statement and Verification Report, containing the discussions of the verification results, was prepared for each company.

The ETV Program was established to overcome numerous impediments to commercialization experienced by developers of innovative environmental technologies. Lack of credible performance data is regarded to be the most serious impediment to commercial use of these technologies. It is bleieved that objective, independently acquired, high-quality performance data and operational information on new technologies will significantly facilitate the use, permitting, financing, export, purchase, and general marketplace acceptance of such technologies.
