Description:

This document presents an evaluation of the Molecular Bonding System (MBS) and its ability to chemically stabilize three metals-contaminated wstes/soils during a SITe demo. The MBS process treated approximately 500 tons each of soil/Fill, Slag, and Miscellaneous Smelter Waste without Brick from the Midvale Glas Fuperfund Site in Midvale, Utah. The primary objective of the SITE demo ws to demonstrate that the mean concentration of TCLP leachable lead in each of the three wastes/soils ws reduced to less than the regulatory limit of 5 ppm at a 90% confidence level. Secondary objectives included measuring the TCLP leachate concentrations of arsenic and cadmium and SPLP of arsenic, cadmium and lead in each of the treated wastes/soils. For each of the wastes the primary objective was achieved for the the treated material. Total costs for treatment of approximately 2.07M tons of the tree wastes/soils at the Midvale Glas site based on scale-up of the demonstration information collected were estimated to be $20/ton of waste/soil.
