Impact/Purpose:
Journal Article
Description:
The paper gives results of an evaluation of the potential for fungal growth on four different ceiling tiles in static chambers. It was found that even new ceiling tiles supported fungal growth under favorable conditions. Used ceiling tiles appeared to be more susceptible to fungal growth than new ones. It is suspected that better nutrient supply from the dust accumulated on the used tiles facilitated the fungal growth. When the air relative humidity.was not sufficiently high, fungi could still proliferate as long as the moisture content in the ceiling tiles was adequate. Episodes of fungal growth could be avoided if the wetted ceiling tiles were dried quickly and thoroughly.
