Impact/Purpose:

information

Description:

In the project, five chromium emission prevention/control devices were tested tha cover the spectrum of prevention/control techniques currently in use in small- and large-size hard chromium electroplating job shops. The Project results show that some of the tested devices had chromium emissions below 0.015 and/or 0.030 milligrams/dry standard cubic meter. During the project, several emission prevention/control techniques (wetting agent containing mist suppressants and 2-Stage Composite Mesh Pad style Mist Eliminator) were tested at three different emission sources. The chromium air emissions using these techniques were at or below the emission limits promulgated in the standard, 0.015 and 0.030 milligrams/dry standard cubic metter. The project demonstrated pollution prevention methods that reduced the exposure of workers to chromium mists from electroplating tanks by one-fourth or less of the original exposure. work performed during the project identified solutions for some previously unreported issues in the different measurement procedures that may be used for determining or demonstrating compliance with the Chrome Emissions MACT standard.
