Impact/Purpose:

to inform the public

Description:

Experimental bioreactor landfill operations at operating Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) landfills can be approved under the research development and demonstration (RD&D) provisions of 30CFR 258.4. To provide a basis for consistent data collection for future decision-making in support of the newly promulgated RD&D requirements, this document outlines a standard approach for bioreactor landfill monitoring. This document suggests technical guidance only, and is not intended to be used for regulatory purposes. It should also be noted that this document should not take the place of site-specific considerations, nor imply that alternative professional determinations on monitoring and analysis methods are not appropriate. The ongoing research and experience on bioreactor landfill projects have provided the basis for this document; however, advances in monitoring and analysis methods may be identified that warrant future updates to this document.
