Description:

Biosensors show the potential to complement laboratory-based analytical methods for environmental applications. Although biosensors for potential environmental-monitoring applications have been reported for a wide range of environmental pollutants, from a regulatory perspective, the decision to develop a biosensor method for an environmental application should consider several interrelated issues. These issues are discussed, by the U.S. EPA, in terms of the needs, policies, and mechanisms associated with the identification and selection of appropriate monitoring methods.
