Southern Research Institute. ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY VERIFICATION REPORT THE PROTECTOSEAL COMPANY PIN-TECH BUBBLE TIGHT < 500 PPM RELIEF VENT. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, EPA/600/R-00/119, 2000.
Description:
The Environmental Technology Verification report discusses the technology and performance of a pressure relief valve for protection of storage tanks that operate at pressures of 15 psig or less. Four Pin-Tech Bubble Tight <500 ppm Relief Vent valves manufactured by the Protectoseal Company were tested: 2 in. direct acting and diaphragm assisted and 24 in. direct acting and diaphragm assisted. All four valves had leakage rates of 25 ppmv or less in the non-venting mode on leak tightness tests, which is well below the 500 ppmv screening concentration specified by equipment leak requirements in Parts 60, 61, and 63 of Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations. The 2 in. and 24 in. direct-acting devices relieved at 4.7% and 2.3%, respectively, above their design set pressures. The 2 in. diaphragm-assisted valve relieved at between 138% and 195% above design set pressure, and the 24 in. diaphragm-assisted valve relieved at between 0% and 40% above design set pressure.
