Description:
The Environmental Technology Verification report discusses the technology and performance of the Parallon 75kW Turbogenerator manufactured by Honeywell Power Systems, Inc., formerly AlliedSignal Power Systems, Inc. The unit uses a natural-gas-fired turbine to power an electric generator that produces 75 kW of conditioned 3-phase 275 v AC power at 50 or 60 Hz that can be transformed to whatever voltage the user requires. The verification tests were conducted at a commercial office building on the University of Maryland campus. the unit tested was configured with a natural gas booster compressor because the gas was supplied at low pressure and with a 480 v transformer. At full load, the unit operated at an electrical efficiency of 23.45% +/- 0.08%, delivered 71.26 +/- 0.04 kW to the load at a heat input rate of 14,552 Btu/kWh, and produced nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and total hydrocarbon emissions of 18.6, 1.7, and less than 2 ppmv, dry basis. At 50% load, the unit operated at an electrical efficiency of 19.82%, delivered 35.90 kW to the load at a heat input rate of 17,225 Btu/kWh, and produced nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and total hydrocarbon emissions of 42.2, 780.7, and 49.30 ppmv, dry basis. The average total harmonic distortion was 3.56% for current and 0.94% for voltage.
