Description:

The paper addresses the issue of geologic storage (GS) of carbon dioxide (CO2) and discusses the risks and regulatory history of deep underground waste injection on the U.S. mainland and surrounding continental shelf. The treatment focuses on the technical and regulatory aspects that are most likely to be important in assessing the risks of GS. Current underground injection activities and their regulation are included in the discussion.
