RARE PROJECT: AIR TOXICS DATA ANALYSIS FOR SPATIAL ANALYSIS OF AMBIENT VOCS AT SELECTED CENSUS TRACTS IN HOUSTON-GALVESTON

Impact/Purpose:

To conduct statistical analysis of the ambient air toxics data using air toxic data measured using OVMs to determine the spatial distribution of air toxics for eventual development of a predictive model which provides estimated concentrations of air toxics for exposure.

Description:

This is an ORD Regional Applied Research Effort (RARE) study with EPA Region 6 to conduct data analysis geared to spatial analysis for estimation of ambient VOCs at selected census tract areas in Houston-Galveston area. For a better understanding of air toxics impacts in the Houston-Galveston area, Region 6 has conducted extensive ambient air toxics monitoring using passive sampling devices such as Organic Vapor Monitors (OVMs) in 3 selected Houston census tracts. In previous studies conducted by Region 6, they have proven the use of the OVMs for ambient monitoring of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at these census tracts. The data to be used in the current analysis was collected by Region 6 using OVMs over a one year period to evaluate temporal and spatial variability of the ambient air concentrations of selected air toxics at 36 neighborhood homes, which are located in the 3 census tracts.
