Citation:

Meckes*, M, R. K. Oshiro, M. Pope, AND Y. Chambers. MICROORGANISMS IN BIOSOLIDS: ANALYTICAL METHODS DEVELOPMENT, STANDARDIZATION, AND VALIDATION. Presented at 6th Annual State & Regional Biosolids Coordinator's Workshop, Potomac, MD, June 28 - July 01, 2004.

Impact/Purpose:

To inform the public.

Description:

The objective of this presentation is to discuss pathogens of concern in biosolids, the analytical techniques used to evaluate microorganisms in biosolids, and to discuss standardization and validation of analytical protocols for microbes within such a complex matrix. Implications of indicator organism densities with respect to pathogens will be addressed. Current work being conducted on development of standard protocols for the analysis of fecal coliform and Salmonella in residuals will be described, and the approach used for validation and development of performance standards will be discussed.
