RESTORE CIRCULATION AND PROVIDE ECOLOGICAL ENHANCEMENT IN THE FT. DESOTO PARK AQUATIC HABITAT MANAGEMENT AREA

Impact/Purpose:

The Pinellas County(Florida)Department of Environmental Management will restore circulation to the inner protion of the bays of Fort DeSoto Park that were severed during the dredging and filling activities that occurred in the late 1950s. This hydrological action affected water quality and habitat value. This project will restore and enhance water quality, seagrasses and wetlands within the Fort DeSoto Park.

Description:

This project will result in the design and environmental enhancement as it re-established circuitous flow in the bak bays of Mullet Key within the Ft. DeSoto Park Aquatic Habitat Management Area. Pinellas County is designing the project will use GMP funds for a portion of the costs associated with design, permitting and environmental enhancements to the project including planting native beneficial vegetation and placement of native Florida limestone under the hydrologic crossings.
