FIELD ANALYTICAL METHODS GUIDANCE

Impact/Purpose:

The guidance will promote a more streamlined Superfund response process by presenting a model for fully integrating field-based analytical methods into the Superfund program so that data generated on-site can be used to make decisions on-site, thereby minimizing the number of mobilizations that are necessary to make site decisions. The document is written primarily for EPA project managers, but secondary audiences include any personnel that are involved with field activities at Superfund sites, including: QA officers, COs, contractors, EPA technical specialists, Army Corps of Engineers, PRPs.

Description:

The guidance outlines a strategy for dynamic work planning and on-site decision making so that EPA project managers can minimize the number of mobilizations that are involved in reaching site decisions. As part of this process, it describes how field-based analytical methods can be selected that provide technically and legally defensible data. It also presents three case studies that document the significant time and cost savings that can be realized with this process.
