Hill, B. H. THE PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE OF THE REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING AND ASSESSMENT PROGRAM, PART OF SESSION ON R-EMAP: THE APPLICATION OF EMAP INDICATORS AND DESIGNS TO REGIONAL AND STATE MONITORING PROBLEMS. Presented at EPA Science Forum, Washington, DC, June 1-3, 2004.
Description:
Over the past 10 years REMAP has taken the EMAP's probability survey design and multiple indicator approach for monitoring the nation's aquatic resources and applied them to regional and state-level monitoring problems. The strength of the EMAP approach lies in its quantitative indicators coupled with its probability survey design. The result is a statistically robust, and defensible, estimate of the extent and condition of aquatic resources, a boon to State and Tribal 305B reporting under the Clean Water Act. To date, 19 states are using or evaluating EMAP's approach, 8 have expressed interest, and 17 are discussing its potential for meeting their monitoring needs.
