Abstract:
Improvements in the Lanthanide Enhance Luminescence (LEL) protocol have facilitated the use of the recently synthesized Eu(III)-macrocycle-mono-isothiocyanate, Quantum Dye?, as a label for direct staining of cells and indirect staining as a Streptavidin conjugate to observe apoptotic and S phase cells. Preliminary studies indicate that europium Quantum Dye stained cells can be observed by both conventional UV laser excited and by infrared two photon confocal microscopy. An enhancer has been found that enables the observation of simultaneous emissions from both the europium and terbium ions.
