Description:
ABSTRACT
SP22 is a protein that has been characterized in rats where it has been related with fertility. SP22 homologues have been studied in mouse and man and a definitive role for the protein has not been assigned yet. By means of a polyclonal IgG to recombinant rat SP22, we detected the presence of the protein in Xenopus laevis tissues. We have found a Xenopus EST sharing an high similarity with rat SP22 transcript and derived a sequence coding for a protein of 189 aa that is very similar to rat SP22. By western blot and RT-PCR we investigated the expression of Xenopus SP22 both in embryos and in adult tissues.
